Thanksgiving

The Americans celebrate Thanksgiving today. Traditionally in United States, Thanksgiving is celebrated on the 4th Thursday of November. It has been an annual tradition in United States since 1863 when President Abraham Lincoln declared a national day of Thanksgiving to be celebrated.

So how did Thanksgiving originate? Thanksgiving can be traced back to 1621 at Plymouth Plantation. The pilgrims at Plymouth held a harvest feast following a successful harvest. They gave thanks to God for seeing them through their first cold and difficult winter in New England. And over the years, they celebrated Thanksgiving remembering of God's goodness to them.

In modern times, most Americans travel back to their families to have Thanksgiving dinner. It's almost like Chinese heading back to their families for reunion dinners on the eve of the Lunar New Year. Like the Chinese reunion dinner, Thanksgiving dinner, there are certain dishes that would be present for they have special meanings. There's always a roasted turkey, corn, sweet potato and pumpkin. These food signify what the pilgrims years ago at Plymouth had.

I'm not American but I celebrate Thanksgiving with my husband. I like celebrating Thanksgiving because I believe that it is important for me to remember that God has been good to me and my family. He has blessed me so much and there are times that I forgot to tell Him thank you. So on Thanksgiving, I'm always reminded to be very thankful for all that I have.

So kids, write and tell me what are you thankful to God about? How has God blessed you? Have a blessed Thanksgiving!

Miss Faith,
It's me again! Enoch, the P.3 student in Kei Wai before. I was so excited that I am going to Ying Wa Collage next year. Well, I am now studying in Ying Wa Primary school. However, I moved to Kowloon instead of staying in Park Island. My new school...Actually, it wasn't new for me already. I knew boys only in that school.(Of course because that is a boys school) I' ve been studying there for 3 years. The classmates were all 11-year-old boys.
Seriously, I am getting father from your topic. I went to USA before when I was in kinder garden. My uncle, my aunt and my cousins live there. We had the thanksgiving dinner first. We had healty food such as apples, bananas, oranges blablabla...Anyway, we still got full. How about you? How many thanksgiving days you have experienced????????????

Dear Enoch,

It's nice for you to drop by again. I've not lived in the US and each time I visit the US is always during summer or Christmas and not during Thanksgiving. I've only started celebrating Thanksgiving in Hong Kong actually. Last Thanksgiving, it was special as my parents were here and we had dinner together. Last night, I celebrated Thanksgiving with my bible study group.

I like Thanksgiving because it's a great reminder that God has really done lots for me and I should always be grateful and thankful.

Miss Faith,
I really accept your comment. Thanksgiving Day should a day for thanking God but nowadays, people only celebrate it for ...TURKEY!!!! How shame!
Anyway, I'm a Christian and I love celebrating festivals about Jesus or God. Therefore, wala! I'll have to visit Canada is summer. I usually go to Canada in summer vacations. I'll go to my godparent's house instantly. Will you go to somewhere is hot summer?????? Oh by the way, I would like to introduce one of my friends who used to study in a International School in Shang Hai. He's ultra good at speaking in English, REALLY!!! He even studied Mathematics which was taught in F.4.I was also amazed that there was a classmate who had already finished the study schedule for UNIVERSITY!!! (I mean he studied calculus already)
Lot's and lot's of things about Ying Wa Primary school...Oh yes! Ying Wa Collage is the oldest school in Hong Kong.( It was built in 1818)It's now 192 years old!!!!

Enoch,

It's really good to hear from you. My cousins live in San Francisco and my best friend live in San Diego and that's why most summers I go and visit them there. I'm glad that you're enjoying Ying Wa.
